There is much hype surrounding this tiny purple berry that is found in the rain forests of Amazon. It is hard to believe that such a small berry that has a diameter of not more than 2 cm is said to be the number one super food of the world.

The Acai Berry contains the greatest concentration of antioxidants than any other fruit which is available today. Acai Berry has twice the antioxidant properties of blueberries and 10 times of the grapes. It contains 10-30 more Anthocyanins compared to red wine. The Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity Score for the 100 gm of frozen dried Acai Powder is more than 50000. This is an unbelievable figure when it is compared to the fact that a vast majority of US population consumes not even 1000 units of ORAC daily.

Acai Berry fruit is rich in omega fats. Around half of Acai Berry is fat. The 74 % of this fat content comes from healthy and unsaturated fats like Omega 9, Omega 6, and Omega 3.
Each 100 gm serving of Acai Berry contains 8 gm of proteins. The building blocks of proteins are amino acids. Around 20 different amino acids are found in Acai Berry. Around 7 % weight of the pulp of Acai Berry come from amino acids.

Three photosterols have been identified in Acai Berry. These are

  1. B-sitosterol
  2. Sigmasterol
  3. Campesterol

These photosterols have been proved to have numerous health related benefits in maintaining healthy digestive system and heart.
Acai Berry is an amazing source of minerals and vitamins. The Vitamin A, B1, B2, B3, C and E are found in Acai Berry. It contains Vitamin C equivalent to the one found in blueberries and it has more than 1000 IU of Vitamin A in each 100 gm serving of Acai. Besides it also have magnesium, calcium, zinc and copper. Acai Berry fruit is also rich in fiber. Again 100 gm serving of this small berry contains around 14 gm of fiber.
I’m sure the reader might be thinking that anything which is abundant with beneficial properties must have a terrible taste. But it is not true. The truth is in fact opposite. The Acai Berry has a mixture of the berry and chocolate flavor. The flavor is unique and delicious. It is used in deserts, smoothies, puddings and even in the spicy Indian cuisines.
